Considered by some to be the best first-stop spot in Barcelona, L’Ovella Negra is a rustic tavern whose high wood ceilings, glowing lanterns, stone floors, and cozy wood stoves create an ambiance reminiscent of a cross between the famous German beer gardens and a medieval mess hall.

Once patrons have navigated their way past the heavily-pierced bouncers, they’ll find themselves in the company of a young, international, and rowdy crowd sitting on benches beneath the iron chandeliers, swigging from their tankards, and telling tales of their travels.

Popular with students and tourists, there are always plenty of English speakers on hand with whom to share a pitcher of beer and a game of pool, foosball, or darts.

Regardless of the time or the activity, L’Ovella Negra’s welcoming, outgoing crowd and energetic atmosphere pretty much guarantee a good time.

If you’re planning on putting your liver through its paces, L’Ovella Negra is a perfect starting point. The pitchers of beer here are a much better value than at most Spanish bars, and the mixed drinks are huge.

This is THE bar to go to during game time when you can't get a ticket to the stadium. Providing cheap beer and multiple TVs, you'll be sure to feel that adrenaline rush every time the Barca team is running to the goal post. However, be sure to get to the bar early, at least an hour before game time, in order to reserve your seat. The bar fills up fast with both locals and study-abroad students.

With large rooms, lots of tables to sit and drink at, and cheap beer and sangria to enjoy amongst friends, the atmosphere at L’Ovella Negra cannot be beat! Whether it is your pre-game for clubs or the party you and your friends are looking for, you will be sure to have a great time! Because this place is so popular and everyone there is always so friendly, you can be sure to meet some nice Europeans or share stories with some fellow Americans every time you go. If attending a Barcelona soccer match in person isn’t an option, L’Ovella Negra is one of the most exciting places to get the same experience of Barca pride. And be sure not to shy away from purchasing one of the infamous towers of beer or sangria, because there’s no easier way to make friends than inviting them over to your table to join in on some drinking games!

With an international vibe, you can see the combination of both locals and tourists, making it the best of both worlds. With massive benches and tables, this bar gives the opportunity to get cozy with your neighbors since it fills up fast as the evening goes on. The music is a great mix that appeals to all, with foosball and pool tables to keep you busy if you need to move around. This bar is filled with energy no matter the hour, and as a bonus, drinks are cheaper before 11 pm. If you arrive with a group, there is a 5 liter tower of beer you can order, which also comes with unlimited bowls of popcorn-a random but fantastic snack for this place. For travelers passing through, L'Ovella is perfect for experiencing Spanish culture first hand, while also being able to meet other English-speakers and make new friends. The staff are fun, and are able to understand your Spanglish as well, which is a bonus for any Barcelona party-goer. While some come here as the first stop to their night-long adventures, L'Ovella can also keep you happy for an entire evening, with their cheap drinks and relaxed atmosphere. Do your best to stop by no matter what. Nobody will judge you when you go back for your 10th bowl of popcorn, except maybe that drunken black sheep cutout that many patrons stop to take photos with at some point in their evening!

Ashleigh Ostin Feb 23, 2013 3.0 stars Sangria towers make for memorable night L'Ovella Negra is FUN. The atmosphere resembles a mix between a cave and a German beer garden. Very laid-back, crowded with locals and tourists alike, and a great place to start your night. Come with a group of friends and order the 5 liter tower of sangria - you won't be disappointed. For €30, there is plenty to go around and this stuff is deadly but is some of the best sangria I've had. Definitely make an effort to fit L'Ovella Negra into your visit to Barca.

This is one of the few places in barcelona where you have to get there early or you will not get in. When you walk in, you walk kind of down into a basement and then into a big, open, cave-like space that has long benches and tables holding 5 liter containers of sangria or beer. There is pool (it might be snooker or something else, but you get the idea) and foosball. The mix of people is mostly young people but definitely tourists and locals. This is a great spot to check out.

Don't expect much in the way of decor --- just a bunch of picnic tables. But it's filled with twenty-somethings looking to get after it. Plenty of beer and sangria are consumed in this joint. It is definitely more of a pre-gaming spot but a good one at that. Expect to see a lot of cute, English-speaking girls packing the joint early and many "fratty" type guys following them around. The drinks are cheap and you can certainly tell by the amount that is consumed.

It's a cozy establishment with closely fitted picnic-style tables and chairs, enabling easy access to the plethora of tasty Spanish and international treats that fill the bar on a nightly basis. Booze is cheap, can't go wrong popping in for a few hours to start the night before moving onto your primary evening destination.

Frida Grunewald Sep 10, 2012 4.0 stars 5 liters sangria for 30 euro? Yes please. For some reason it feels kind of forbidden to not like sangria when you are in Spain. Its just because everybody are drinking it, in the same way we are drinking milk in Sweden. So if you want to have a night out or just enjoy a cool beverage during the hottest hour, dont worry, they sell sangria at almost every restaurant. Mostly you get served a glas(copa) or a pitcher of red wine sangria or cava sangria. If that is not enough you are more then welcome to go to the outskirt of Raval. To a street called Carrer de les Sitges, walk through a small door, into a hugh bar and, congratulations you have made it to L´ Ovella Negra. Here you will find 5 liters sangria for 30 euro which is quite a bargain. The mood and the atmosphere makes you want to go back to the Middle Ages. But at the same time, just lean back and drink sangria because you won't get closer to the spanish culture then this.
