Las Ramblas, Barcelona –
Situated right in the heart of Las Ramblas, Hogan’s is a convivial Australian bar brightly decorated with artistic renderings of wombats, koalas, and kangaroos, not to mention a larger-than-life crocodile roped to the wall and a huge shark’s head bearing its razor-sharp teeth.
The bar has gone all out to create an authentic land-down-under feel, from the aboriginal paintings on the ceiling and floor right down to signs like The Dunny (bathroom) and toilet paper sporting such Aussie phrases as “G’day mate!” and “Too bloody right!”
The casual neighborhood vibe is augmented by the wooden Foster’s barrels that serve as tables, and which are usually surrounded by crowds of Australian expats and tourists, as well as the all-important big-screen projection TVs that broadcast sporting events both day and night.
The notoriously friendly, laid-back staff and clientele make everyone feel right at home, so striking up conversations with other English speakers is always easy.
Although the atmosphere tends to stay homey and low key, Hogan’s’ prime location on Las Ramblas makes the pub a great warming-up venue before moving on to other clubs and bars.
Primarily Australian and other English-speaking expats, travelers, and sports fans, early to late 20s.
Sports shown on big-screen projection TVs. Classic rock and American/Irish/Australian tunes.
None.
Beer €5, wine €4.50, mixed drinks €7.50.
Casual.
Always bustling thanks to its location on Las Ramblas, but busiest during weekends and for big sporting events.
