Party Earth El Bosc de les Fades Review

The Scene

Although the Café at Barcelona's Wax Museum seems an unlikely place of interest, El Bosc de les Fades (The Forest of the Fairies) has done a terrific job of creating an enchanted glade where patrons can sip coffee or cocktails...

Las Ramblas, Barcelona –

Although the café at Barcelona’s Wax Museum seems an unlikely place of interest, El Bosc de les Fades (The Forest of the Fairies) has done a terrific job of creating an enchanted glade where patrons can sip coffee or cocktails amid trickling waterfalls and the twisted branches of gigantic tropical trees.

The main room offers plenty of seating under this simulated foliage, but patrons who want the full-immersion effect must cross over the bridge and into the private grotto where they can get lost in the very depths of the mysterious forest.

For those who prefer a creepier fantasyland, El Bosc de les Fades also provides a “haunted house” room complete with eerie mannequins and a magic mirror in which apparitions suddenly appear and then vanish again.

The kitschy but undoubtedly original bar attracts a broad mix of people eager to socialize or just relax and take in El Bosc de les Fades’ cool vibe.

Tip from Emma:

The sangria here is surprisingly potent. Order a jug to share with a friend – it will put you in a great mood and is more economical than ordering by the glass.

  • Crowd

Laid back and sociable, mostly tourists, 18 to 30s.

  • Entertainment / Music

A soothing ambient hum of forest sounds, soft rumbling storms, insects, and wild animals.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

    Hot sandwiches and snacks.

  • Prices

    Sandwiches €4. Beer €3, sangria €3.50 or €12/pitcher.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

    Casual.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

Equally packed on weekdays and weekends, so this may be a great spot to check out earlier in the week. Go around 11pm for more of a crowd.

El Bosc de les Fades User Reviews

Jody Pollara Dec 12, 2012 4.0 stars Total Gimmick but I love it anyway I have taken everyone that has come to visit me in Barcelona to the fairy bar. It is the wax's museums gift shop/cafe/bar. It is open in the evenings and on days when the museum is closed and they just separate the gift shop using a curtain. I know that the bar is a complete gimmick but I think it is so well done and everyone enjoys going there. El Bosc de Las Fades translates to the forest of the fairies and that is exactly what this place is like. All of the tables are trees and all of the trees have faces. There is a fairy sitting by a waterfall and a castle. They keep the temperature really cool so you just always feel like you are in a forest at night. The bar is kind of hidden but just follow the signs for the wax museum and you'll find it - it is at the bottom of Las Ramblas.
Nick Tresnowski Aug 24, 2012 3.0 stars Hidden but worth it. Finding this place is not easy, however after walking back into the courtyard and winding through the hallways and doorways that eventually lead to the forest/bar I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded of a Rainforest Cafe for the young adult crowd. It is definitely weird to drink and hang out in a fake rainforest but I enjoyed the novelty of it. The area is pretty small and feels even more enclosed with the trees. It is difficult to find a place to sit or even something to lean against but walking around checking out the "forest" is not a bad alternative. I don't think I'd be a frequent visitor but I think it is definitely worth a visit just to get a taste of something different in the middle Barcelona.
