Mar 20, 2013 —  For centuries, Europe has been home to countless art movements and cultural communities. Places like London and Paris hosted entire waves of artist-rebels from the waxed moustaches and bobs of the Lost Generation, to the floral wreaths of the bearded Beats. Today’s culture hound goes by the sometimes derogatory title of “hipster” and cities all across the Continent now boast some of the most authentic hipster neighborhoods in the world, full of iconic music venues, historic bars, innovative museums, and bustling clubs.

In London’s Dalston, film buffs pack out the Art Deco-style Rio Cinema and Arcola Theatre for international sensations and indie hits, while jazz lovers indulge in the modern sounds over at the Vortex Jazz Club. Across the Channel in the Parisian streets of Bastille, students and blue collar art hounds flood art openings before checking out the scene at the clubs along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. And down in Barcelona’s El Raval, little tribes of indie kids gather at Las Ramblas and Placa Reial for all-night bar hopping and some of the world's best street art.

Whether you want to fill up on regional flavors, see the best local bands, or loiter around in underground art galleries, Europe’s cities are sure to offer unconventional scenes. So take a break from the mainstream by soaking in some of our favorite culture-cluttered hipster neighborhoods in Europe.
