Feb 20, 2013 — Elton John began playing at pubs around London for £35 a week (plus tips) when he was only 15-years-old. Then known as “Reggie,” bar goers were treated to a captivating tune to complement their drinks whenever he took the stage and performed covers of Ray Charles and Jim Reeves songs. Thanks to young Elton, standard bar jukeboxes were the furthest thing from buzzed audience's minds.
Sir Elton doesn’t frequent too many European piano bars these days – he’s a little tied up with dozens of award shows and worldwide tours – but there are dozens of other talented young Reggies playing and singing at Old World watering holes.
Piano pubs in Europe offer you an opportunity to drink to the day’s triumphs and sing along as a pianist leads the bar through a raucous, foot-stomping, and hand-clapping chorus or a chance to drown your sorrows in a pint and forget about the day’s pitfalls by connecting with a sad tune soaked in melancholy and despair.
We’ve got some places for you to check out if you’re inconsolable and would give anything to visit an establishment that trades background pop music for classier tuneage. We also have you covered if you’re having one of the best days of your life and want a hoppy drink and a sprightly sing-along song to cap off your day.
Plus, you never know when the next Reggie might pop in!
