Jul 28, 2012 — The football clubs might be the ones making the news, but it’s the nightclubs of Spain that fill the calendars of its residents and the scandalous imaginations of partygoers around the world. From the beaches of Ibiza to Barcelona’s buzzing La Rambla corridor, to the hidden cobblestone streets of Madrid, there are enough world-class dance halls to keep even the most hardcore clubbers busy for years.
Dance lovers here have adapted to a nocturnal lifestyle, and any travelers unfamiliar with the norms will need to get used to the time change, and we don’t mean geographically speaking. Nightlife in Spain is renowned for not heating up until well after midnight and the energetic partying doesn’t shut down until dawn, if not later. So if you’re dreaming of high-tempo beats and sexy bodies, don’t make us say we told you so by showing up to an empty building at 11pm only to wonder if you went to the wrong address.
But don’t worry about any daytime schedule you might have to maintain. A solution to the unavoidable fatigue that comes with partying until six in the morning has been in place for centuries, and it’s called a “siesta”. So instead of staying up to research your next night of debauchery, take a snooze with the rest of the country and leave the distressing work to us as we pick out the coolest clubs in Spain.
