The Netherlands men’s national football team is part of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) confederation and plays most of its home international matches at Amsterdam ArenA, but also occasionally holds fixtures at De Kuip and Phillips Station. The Amsterdam stadium was built in 1996 and can hold up to 52,342 fans for Netherlands matches. The Oranje (as they are sometimes called) was founded in 1904, and although it has had a competitive history with results such as a UEFA European Football Championship, it holds the record for most second place finishes without ever winning the final at the FIFA World Cup. Some of the team’s most famous players include Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten, and Arjen Robben. Tickets to Netherlands games can sell out quickly, so buying far ahead of time is highly recommended.
