Perfectly situated on the river Amstel just around the corner from Rembrandtplein, Mulligan's is a typical Irish pub with plenty of Guinness on tap, large TVs to keep the sports fans happy, and pictures of the green countryside of Ireland to keep the expats from feeling homesick.

A large smoking room in back gives tobacco hounds a dedicated spot to satiate their cravings, while a graffiti-laden outdoor terrace in the back – called Oscar Wilde's Courtyard thanks to a pensive portrait of the famous scribe along one wall – provides pleasant afternoon hangouts whenever the weather allows.

An additional long bar downstairs and a smaller lounge area upstairs really get hopping when musicians take the stage from Wednesday to Sunday, banging out everything from traditional and contemporary Irish gigs to bumping bluegrass.

The amicable staff and jovial regulars enhance the comforting and friendly vibe, so patrons should plan on settling in for the night with a few pints and a bit of live entertainment.

The Irish are known for their penchant for drink and love of spirited music, and though that’s certainly a stereotype, both clichés are alive and well at Mulligan’s.

A Taste of Home!

Mulligans is like a home away from home for many backpackers and travelers. I had an incredible time in Amsterdam but through all of my traveling, it is nice to sit down and relax without having to worry about ordering the wrong food in a different language, eating new mysterious foods, etc. Mulligans was a great night out!!
Authentic Irish vibes

Among all the Amsterdam pubs who love to call themselves Irish, The Mulligans is the real and only one! Inside, the atmosphere is always warm and genuine; the pub is small so it won't take you long until you start talking to one of the local clients who live in Amsterdam and have choosen this pub as a second home. Almost every night, but especially on Sunday, there is traditional live music on the tiny stage next to the window. It goes on till late, it is impossible to stand still when you hear the sound of the violin! Good selection of Irish beer and whiskey, perfect for its position, few metes away from Rembrandt Square, the Mulligans is a must see if you want to breath some pure pub atmosphere and some autentic Irish vibes.
Proper Irish bar in Amsterdam

Mokum Groupie is a big supporter of free live music around Amsterdam. And Mulligan's has always been a friendly beacon of support in that field. The place has your traditional pub look and feel. Also one of the few places that can pour proper pints of ale that's made for pints. The small stage is just on right when you walk in. It's very small, maybe fits three. Otherwise people play siting on chairs and tables. Sunday open jam sessions are a proper Irish folk experience. The best place to sit then is up above. Look for the stairs on your left as you enter. Find a table where you can look down and over the canal. I'm not saying it's the best idea to hit an Irish pub when visiting Amsterdam. But if you find yourself at Mulligan's you're in luck.
Home away from home for many

I have this theory, that no matter where you go in this world there will be an Irish bar nearby. I even saw one in Albania. It's a true statement, but there aren't as many tried and true as Mulligan's. This place is a hit, non stop, and they're roster for nightly free live music is booked full months in advance. It's surprising, but the character and life of the place is so wonderful, it's hard to leave! Definitely worth checking out at night, or when the weather totally sucks outside. It's a proper pub with lighting, so stay out in the sun come summer. Regardless, check it out and check out their book crossing stands!
A great pint of real ale

Wherever you go in the world, you will find an Irish Bar. Mulligans is a great one to find. A good pint of Ale at 3 euroes, and a back room for smoking. They also have a good roster of Irish and Bluegrass live music. They call them Irish Bars because of the atmosphere I think. You just drink and dance until you can't drink or dance anymore! I met some really amazing people here and some dear friends. It is a good meeting point for music and ale lovers and is in a good part of the city. It is one of the favorite bars I take visiting friends to when they want a good lively night out. It is a shame they don't do a nice full Irish breakfast as well though!
