Party Earth Coco's Outback Review

The Scene

Amsterdam's only Australian pub and a haven for sports fans, Coco's Outback boasts seventeen flat-screen TVs and two big screens that show any number of games from five or so different sports channels.

Rembrandtplein, Amsterdam –

Amsterdam’s only Australian pub and a haven for sports fans, Coco’s Outback boasts seventeen flat-screen TVs and two big screens that show any number of games from five or so different sports channels.

The décor is classic Aussie pub with the requisite rustic furnishings, stuffed game mounted on rugged walls, and typical Aussie paraphernalia tucked in all the nooks and crannies.

Fully equipped with an open fire pit, a long bar in the back, and an open indoor and outdoor seating area, Coco’s offers a hearty, mouth-watering menu, over ten different types of beer from Down Under, and dozens of specialty cocktails that keep customers in high spirits.

The place gets a bit rowdy at night as the drinks flow and the music gets people on their feet, and club nights are guaranteed to be packed with a young and outgoing crowd.

With pool, darts, comfort food, and enough sofas and chairs to fit an army of sports fans, Coco’s Outback is an oasis for many Aussies, Kiwis, Brits, and Americans looking for a nostalgic slice of home.

Tip from Lucas:

If the bar is closing but the party’s not over, head to Coco’s Mine right next door. The place is small, but after two extra hours of drinking, you won't really notice.

Coco's Outback User Reviews

Edward Wycliff May 29, 2013 3.0 stars Every time I'm in Amsterdam I have to grab a pint at Coco's Come to Amsterdam's only Australian pub just on the outskirts of Rembrantplein. Coco's offers a young scene. It's most commonly frequented by the university students around Amsterdam. Drop in for an ISN (International Student Network) party, hosted every other wednesday for an all night dance marathon. The place gets packed with beautiful young people and there is always a good drink special to get the party started. Coco's has a great location nearby some of the mega clubs in Rembrantplein like Escape. The difference here is you won't find 16 year olds romping around this bar. Stop in to catch your favorite sports game. Even if it's an NBA or NFL game, the staff will change the channel on request. I recommend Coco's as a great place to grab a beer, jam out to good tunes and meet a few new friends.
Roy Spencer Dec 11, 2012 2.0 stars Meh. You could probably find better. Loud pop and rnb music, girls in skimpy clothes and having to pay to use the toilet? No thanks! There’s enough of these kind of places in the UK (apart from the whole paying for the toilet thing) and there’s way more kooky and interesting places to drink in Amsterdam so I think you could always do better than Coco’s Outback. That said it’s situated on a busy square with a lot of outside tables so you can still go there to soak up the atmosphere and have a few beers without having to brave the Lions Den and actually go inside!
Audrey Sykes Dec 4, 2012 3.0 stars Sports, pints and meat dishes, oh my I'm not one to party hard and late at Cocoa's, but I end up there for sports games and cold beer pints. Especially come American football season -- it's THE place to watch the Superbowl. And I'll end up there if I need some hangover food, their burgers are really big and greasy, meaty and covered in some great sauces. It's the closest to American style grill food I can get, although it's not cheap! It's not the worst place to end up with a bunch of visitors when bar-hopping, it's actually pretty fun, but nowhere near local. So if you're looking for a good time, and a place with pints, or if you're stuck at Rembrandtplein, Cocoa's will do the trick.
Craig Becker Nov 22, 2012 2.0 stars Expensive but the decor is hilarious (in a good way) You'll hear a lot of English spoken around Amsterdam, and especially around Rembrandtplein (side note: absolutely check out the open market in this square; I was able to catch a cool modern art sale while I was there, and even if nothing strikes you as worth purchasing, there's always a variety of buskers to enjoy), and the clientele at Coco's Outback is no exception. In fact, you hear almost exclusively English here, though the variety of accents is refreshing. I happened to go during the afternoon and it wasn't a terribly interesting place to be. It seems like the place to be at night though, and if you're looking to get inebriated with native English speakers, then this is probably the place to do it.
Bobbie Cochrane Nov 4, 2012 4.0 stars THE Place to Visit While in Amsterdam This unique restaurant offers some of the best Australian cuisine and patrons will never have to travel South of the Equator. The ambiance appeals to travelers of all ages, but the under thirty crowd might find the atmosphere more appealing. The Happy Hour specials and mouth watering burgers will keep you coming back for more. Dance until the break of dawn or kick back and enjoy a few drinks by the open fire pit. Karaoke Thursdays can allow you to sing your heart out. Any American, Aussie, or Brit who is homesick while traveling abroad will feel right at home at this extremely entertaining and innovative venue.
