Taking place in late October since the mid-1970s, PINT Bokbierfestival is a very popular beer festival in The Netherlands, attracting upwards of 10,000 revelers thirsty for traditional bock beers.
PINT is a non-profit group dedicated to promoting information about traditional bock beers, whose members have been putting up sudsy festivals all over the country since 1980.
The three-day PINT Bokbierfestival is held at the multi-story Beurs van Berlage building, a concert and exhibition hall that is easy to spot thanks to a looming clock tower that has stood the test of time for more than 100 years.
Bokbier is a Dutch variation of traditional bock, which is a strong, usually dark lager originating in Germany. Bokbier is brewed extensively in the Netherlands, and all the major brewers like Heineken, Grolsch, Amstel, Alfa Brouwerij, Brand, and Dommelsch market at least one variety. Many Dutch microbreweries seasonally brew their own versions as well, including Brouwerij 't IJ in Amsterdam, Jopen Four Grain Bokbier made in Haarlem, and the Texels bock made on the island of Texel.
Live music is normally on the docket during the PINT Bokbierfestival, from traditional Oktoberfest-style oompah bands to local folk and even rock performers.
Tickets for the PINT Bokbierfestival are normally €10 and can be purchased on the PINT website or at the door (if not sold out). Beers tend to run about €2 each.
