Thanks to its shameless ocean theme, The Dolphins is one of the most unique and recognizable coffeeshops in Amsterdam.
The walls are amusingly painted with one continuous marine mural that features air-brushed dolphins, treasure chests, and scuba divers, as well as three-dimensional foam coral creations that bubble out from the surface.
The narrow room contains a display case of glass pipe work and a seashell-laden bar, lit by bulbs containing live goldfish. To top off the already over-the-top décor, TV screens play aquatic visuals, while cool tones accentuate the feeling of what it must be like to live on a coral reef.
Stairs in the back lead to a smoking lounge with wicker sofas where young patrons lounge and contemplate the funky, yet soothing, wall creations.
Besides the fascinating décor, of course, The Dolphins offers a range of quality products and a friendly atmosphere that attract an open and sociable clientele.
Mostly tourists in their 20s and a few older regulars.
A track list of soothing, mellow beats, and mainstream British hits. Free Wi-Fi. Water bong table. Pipes and vaporizers available to rent. TVs play aquatic visuals and music videos.
Tostis, space cakes, and a variety of cup-o’-soup flavors.
Weed and hash €10–€12.50/bag, White Dolphin “Week Bag” €50/5g. Tostis and soups €2.50, space muffins €9. Space tea €7, Looza juice/coffee/tea €2.50.
Casual.
Anytime, but Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest.
