Long before its fame for its part in the film Ocean’s 12 – a scene that is continuously looped on the bar’s flat-screen TVs – De Dampkring was well known for its trippy, hippie Indian vibe and fine list of weed and hash.

Swirls of earthy tones and vibrant gold trim adorn the dark wood bar, glossy inlaid tables, and sunset-colored lamps, while elegant carvings twist around hand-painted furnishings to create a unique environment with plenty of character.

De Dampkring’s groovy look and top-quality products have made it a standout in the Amsterdam coffeeshop scene, as have its multiple Cannabis Cup Award wins. Customer satisfaction is high on the list of priorities here, where the open staff allows patrons to inspect before they buy.

De Dampkring offers a laid-back scene with a mellow vibe that customers – much like the resident cat sprawled lazily in the window – can easily sink into with a cup of tea and some sensi.

Great coffeeshop selection for those wanting a taste of cannabis culture

MokumGroupie interviewed Dialated Peoples here. It was their pick. It's their favourite coffeeshop in the city. The owner knew them as if they worked there. It turned out to be a great video interview. Even though it was freezing outside and these boys had just arrived from Los Angeles. We stuck them out in the alley between the frozen ice and did a great Q&A. Then we went back inside and one of the guys rolled the fattest joint I'd ever seen. All weed, with a line of hash running down it. I forget what he called it. But that earned my respect! Americans and their pure weed. They left soon after that. Great gig as well!
Best decor coffeeship

I never feel like an outsider when I walk into Dampkring. Even if I'm with visitors, the staff are nice and laid back. It's hard to find a place to sit after 4pm, but there's usually a spot at the bar. Last time I was there I met a Kiwi who traveled around Europe but kept coming back to Amsterdam. We had a great talk about surf spots in Morocco and Greece, and I almost convinced him to try out waves in Holland. That didn't happen for him, but it just goes to show that you can have a nice and comfortable conversation with people at Dampkring. Even if Ocean's 12 wasn't filmed there I think there would be a lot of people still showing up.
