De Club Up is a hotspot for a diverse clientele that includes everyone from young and cultured adults from the city’s creative industries of fashion, marketing, music, and design, to artsy hipsters and mild hip-hop mavens.
The brick and concrete club’s generous size houses a vast dance floor that accommodates 300 guests and features silent projected scenes of rock and roll flicks or Stanley Kubrick films that throw a flickering light on the crowd beneath the disco balls. Animated bartenders groove to the trendy DJ’s funky beats as they mix cocktail after cocktail.
Just above the dance floor is a partially hidden mezzanine that is home to a long lounge – the ideal spot to sink into plush chairs for a bit of respite.
One of the many upsides to De Club Up is the particularly outgoing and colorful urban mix of partygoers who rarely “stick to their own” – tight-jean hipsters mingle with grungy skaters who mingle with a blend of hip-hoppers and everyone else in between.
The bottom line at this club is that patrons are eager to create an open-minded and expressive atmosphere with an interactive and nonjudgmental scene – and in this they have succeeded.
De Club Up is without a doubt the place to be for those who enjoy diving into the latest style or being inspired to create a new trend, whether it’s through the club’s hip music or the crowd’s fashionable threads.
Urban mix of trendy professionals, skaters, hip-hop lovers, and up-and-comers in the creative/fashion scene, 20s to 30s.
A mix of new disco, hip-hop, indie pop, and some house.
The entrance can be confusing, but patrons need only walk in the door and up the stairs where they’ll find the coat check and cashier.
Cover charge €5–€10. Beer €2.50, wine €3.50, mixed drinks €7.
Casual to smart casual.
Thursdays through Saturdays. The most popular events are the Velvet Morning Disco Circle on the first Friday of every month and the Cirque Excentrique on the first Saturday.
Next door is De Kring, a posh and cutting-edge members-only artists’ lounge. Making friends with one of the 2,000 or so members while at De Club Up is one way to help gain entrée into De Kring.
