The Scene

Straight out of New Orleans, the Bourbon Street Blues Club is a live music venue whose authentic, old-fashioned feel is perfectly complemented by the fantastic jazz and blues that has become the club's trademark.

Straight out of New Orleans, the Bourbon Street Blues Club is a live music venue whose authentic, old-fashioned feel is perfectly complemented by the fantastic jazz and blues that has become the club’s trademark.

A spacious stage, which has played host to the likes of Sting and ZZ Top, dominates the back of the venue, and the wide, open area in the middle provides plenty of space for the crowds.

Black-and-white photo portraits of underground jazz musicians seem to watch the action from the walls, while the country-style bar and single street lantern mimic a classic street in The Big Easy.

As the night turns into morning, the scene grows progressively upbeat and the dancing reaches a fever pitch as couples, business people, travelers, locals, and whole stag parties kick off their shoes and absorb the music.

The warm and inviting atmosphere makes Bourbon Street a “must-go” for any blues lover looking to get groovy under the old-school chandeliers and antique brass instruments hanging from the high ceiling.

GOOD TIMES!

Bourbon Street is like walking into a Blues Brothers movie, and it rocks. Mokum is right... late night is the time to go, and definitely with friends, and definitely after a few drinks. But you've got to get that Dutch courage in ya if you want the energy to groove to your favorite tunes! And the bands are NOT the same every night, some are even expats from all over the world that work hard to entertain the audience. There's a lot of fun going on here, and people really love to let loose... which is something you don't easily find in the more professional venues. I wind up here when I'm taking out of towners out at Leidse square, and I don't think we've ever had a bad time, run into creepers, or lost people who party too hard. I say go for it, and if it sucks The Last Waterhole could work. Either way they'll stamp you so when you leave you can come back in without having to pay twice.

I'm speaking from a music connoisseur point of view. The times I've ended up here were the times I was ultimately pissed. Borderline blackout. And if that's where you stand then any place is a fun place. And honestly, that's where everyone else is standing at Bourbon St. But I digress. It's the same band every night, is it not? I can't tell the difference. They're all cover bands with the same set, getting high from the crowd's drunken dancing. And you're paying a fiver for it. Ladies, make sure to have a fella with you for back up. There are some real creeps there when it gets late. In general, when you have friends in town for the weekend and you're hitting Leidseplein there are two late nite choices. Bourbon St or Waterhole. If you're 30 and up you go to Bourbon St. Anyone younger it's Waterhole. Go in a group and you'll have fun. Both are open late, so show up after midnight.
