Jordaan, Amsterdam –
“Stout” is a Dutch term used for people who are being naughty or just plain immodest, and the wait staff and bartenders at STOUT! do their best to embody the word – that is, in a friendly way that leaves their lunch and dinner customers happy and a bit flattered by the flirtatious attention received by the attractive staff.
The mellow ambiance inside and the lively chatter in the outdoor area draw a loyal clientele of young professionals who stop in after work, after shopping, or before a night out in the Jordaan.
The café itself has a modern Swedish vibe with large windows showcasing the simple and chic design.
Pillows abound, from the booths inside to the terrace seating, though it’s the candlelit picnic benches and giant mattresses strewn under the heated awning that give STOUT! its relaxed vibe and make it such an appealing stop on the Haarlemmerstraat.
Preppy regulars, 20s to late 30s.
A mix of house, soul, and funky beats from a playlist or spun by a DJ.
